Trail Running Movement’s History

Trail Running Movement was founded in 2013 from the vision of professional trail running athletes, coaches, and multinational managers experienced in startup development and strategic marketing:

  • Cristina Tasselli
  • Marco Mori
  • Michele Tasselli
  • Marco Biasotti.

In 2015 the amateur sports services company (SSD) was officially registered, with headquarters in Milan.

Initially operating as Trail Running Movement and focused on the B2C market for amateur and elite trail runners, it was later incorporated into Digital Sport 360 srl, which expanded the activity into the B2B market and eventually became part of the parent company Digital Marketing Promotion 360 SL.

In 2016, TRM organized three scientific research projects during one of the toughest races in the world, the Transpyrenea (900 km, 55,000 m D+), with the direct participation of Cristina Tasselli (3rd overall woman) and Marco Mori (11th overall man), together with another 43 athletes from different nationalities.

The objective of the research was to understand the limits of the human body during an extreme endurance challenge.

The scientific research conducted during the Transpyrenea by researchers from the CNR (Institute of Clinical Physiology) in Pisa, the University and School of Nutrition and Sports Supplementation (SANIS) in Turin, and physiotherapists from Indiba Active* analyzed the impact of extreme performance through the following areas of investigation:

  •     cardio-circulatory profile: study of cardiac function and monitoring of blood parameters
  • nutritional mechanisms: analysis of dietary strategies and energy metabolism under stress using glucose monitoring tools from Abbott
  • physical endurance (endurance): evaluation of the ability to sustain prolonged high-intensity efforts over multiple days
  • muscle-tendon system: monitoring of inflammatory conditions and the response of soft tissues to continuous stress over 24 hours for 12 days
  • joint and skin integrity: investigation of injuries, joint degradation and skin barrier alterations in outdoor environments
  • psychological and sensory sphere: administration of cognitive tests and analysis of changes in olfactory perception under severe sleep deprivation (2.5 hours per night).

The data analyzed by the CNR Institute of Medicine in Pisa and SANIS contributed to establishing the foundations of the TRM Method*, for which Trail Running Movement holds the patent and worldwide exclusivity.

In 2018, TRM Team ASD was founded, affiliated with FIDAL, for beginner, amateur, and elite athletes.

Today TRM has, across all its digital channels, more than 25,000 followers worldwide and more than 20 partnerships and clients involved in sports projects, including:

    Salomon
    Scarpa
    BV Sport
    Cimalp
    Kiron
    Decathlon
    Fiera Milano Borsa del Turismo
    Erba Vita
    and many others.

Founders and Coaches

Cristina Tasselli, a Level 3 CONI-certified coach specialized in training and nutrition, is the only Italian woman to have completed a 900 km non-stop race (Transpyrenea, UTMB, AVP 501, UTMB Malaysia, Adamello Ultra Trail…).

Marco Mori, Level 3 CONI coach and President of TRM Team, an expert in training, equipment and injury prevention, has participated in more than 150 international ultra trail races (Transpyrenea, Tor des Géants, UTMB, Ultra Trail Andorra, Transcanaria, Ultra Trail Verbier…).

The two coaches have trained athletes for national and international championships and competitions coming from:

    Italy
    France
    United Kingdom
    Switzerland
and other countries across four continents.

They have also coached and prepared athletes for extreme expeditions such as:

the 4 Deserts circuit: Namib Race (Namibia), Gobi March (Mongolia), Atacama Crossing (Chile) and The Last Desert (Antarctica)
the Arctic desert of Lake Baikal (Russia)
the deserts of Morocco and Oman
the jungles of Thailand and Malaysia

and many other hostile environments.

TRM Team ASD: FIDAL and EPS affiliation

In 2016 Trail Running Movement separated its athletic activities into an Amateur Sports Association called TRM Team ASD.

The association focuses exclusively on athlete membership and athletic preparation for athletes of all levels:

    beginners
    amateur runners
    professional athletes
    elite athletes.

To date, athletes of TRM Team — both Italian and international — have achieved hundreds of overall and category podium finishes in trail running races around the world, too many to list individually.

Trail Running Training Programs for Athletes: Trail Running Camp and Training Day

To enhance athletes’ abilities and optimize:

    mountain running techniques
    use of equipment and gear
    race nutrition and supplementation management
    micro-sleep strategies during endurance races.

TRM organizes full-immersion individual and group sessions on Alpine high routes, called Trail Running Camps, where it has been an absolute leader for more than 15 years, particularly in Valle d’Aosta and the Franco-Swiss Savoie Alps.

These are the most appreciated trail running camps by athletes worldwide:

Franco-Italian-Swiss Alps: TRM Camp Mont Blanc 4 days (UTMB)
Franco-Italian-Swiss Alps: TRM Camp Mont Blanc 4 days (CCC)
Aosta Valley Alps: TRM Camp TOR (Tor des Géants)
Ligurian Alps – Cinque Terre: TRM Camp 5 Terre (Liguria)
Apuan Alps: TRM Camp Apuane (Tuscany).

In the past, camps have also been held in Veneto, Lombardy and Abruzzo.

Alongside the camps, which last between 2 and 5 days, one-day sessions called TRM Training Day are also available.

These are individual coaching days with a TRM Coach, designed for trail runners who want to improve their performance and focus on:

    running technique
    crisis management
    race strategy.

The program, route, and distance are defined according to the participant’s level and personal goals.

Training Days in Valle d’Aosta are also very popular as gift experiences. They are often given by partners of trail runners as Christmas, Valentine’s Day, or birthday gifts.

While the athlete trains, the partner can enjoy a day of trekking in Valle d’Aosta, shopping in Courmayeur, relaxing at the Pré-Saint-Didier Thermal Baths, or enjoying a massage in La Thuile.

TRM Elite Athletes: Support and Achievements

The TRM Method has helped athletes from various national teams reach the highest international level, including:

    Christian Pizzatti (Italian National Team)
    Clementine Geoffrey (French National Team)
    Meryl Cooper (UK National Team)
    Yvonne Vissers (Swiss National Team)
    Claudia Chmielowska (Polish National Team)
    Linda Menardi (Italian National Team)
Joao Carlos Mota (Portuguese National Team)
Marina Plavan (multiple-award Italian athlete – 450 km races)
Hamed Al Harthy (first Omani athlete to complete 450 km)
Cristina Tasselli (the only Italian woman to complete 900 km).

Thanks to TRM’s support and technical preparation, many of these athletes have participated in extreme challenges such as:

    Marathon des Sables
    4 Deserts
    Yukon Arctic Ultra
expeditions on the frozen surface of Lake Baikal.

Trail Running Coach Training Courses

With the growth of Trail Running Movement, the organization was no longer able to respond to the many requests from beginner trail runners seeking qualified coaches in their local area to start approaching the discipline.

For this reason, TRM developed, together with the Sports Promotion Bodies MPS and ASI and the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), official training courses for Trail Running Coaches Level 1 and Level 2, with registry enrollment and CONI certification.

Since 2020, Master Coaches (Level 3 SNaQ) Cristina Tasselli and Marco Mori, together with professionals in sports nutrition — Felicina Biorci / Sara Campagna — and sports physiotherapy — Massimo Sicheri — have been delivering training programs for professional trail running coaches:

Trail Running Coach Level 1 course (assistant coach)
Trail Running Coach Level 2 course (coach).

Within a few years, thanks to the quality of the content and the practical-theoretical teaching method, both courses have become among the most respected on the market, setting a new benchmark for professional excellence in trail running coaching.
