LUCA LIZZOLI FROM THE FIRST STEPS IN THE WOODS TO THE NATIONAL MOUNTAIN RUNNING TEAM
Luca Lizzoli, athlete and CimAlp Tester, is very young, he is only 22 years old and has a DNA in which his history as an athlete was already written. The fact that he was born in Premana, a village located at 1000m of altitude, known for the numerous mountain running competitions that are organized there, certainly pushed him to try his hand at this discipline.
Today he tells us about his first steps, his victories, and the important call-up to be part of the National Mountain Running Team. To you Luca!
The mountain and running in the family DNA
Premana, wedged between the Orobic Alps, is at an altitude of 1000m and the mountain is part of everyday life, in games, for work and, of course, in sports.
Mine is a family of athletes, my father runs, my uncles run, I couldn’t choose another sport. On Sunday I liked to run with my friends and cousins also because they always ended up partying.
I started competing for fun in cross-country races, then, as I grew up, the training became more structured and marked my days. I remember that the solo trail running sessions on the trails in the woods around Premana gave me a great boost.
The important victories and the convocation in the National Mountain Running Team
At the age of 17 I climbed to the top step of the podium for the first time. I achieved 1st place as a junior in the Vertical of Limone del Garda.
It was an indescribable emotion that gave me great strength and enthusiasm to continue and face the increasingly hard training sessions.
From that moment on, I competed a lot, in different places, having the opportunity to meet many beautiful people and international athletes of my same age. I have won many medals in skyrunning competitions and regional titles, like the junior one at the Premana Laghi di Deleguaggio Time Trial.
Sport requires important sacrifices but repays you with immense satisfactions.
My commitment was rewarded by being summoned to represent the Italian Team at the 2017 Mountain Running World Championships in Andorra.
An incredible experience crowned by a 3rd place overall on the podium, my greatest satisfaction at a sporting level (Luca Lizzoli, 3° from left)
