3 SPECTACULAR TRAIL RUNNING RACES IN MAY NEAR VENICE!

The Grand Raid of the Treviso Prealps celebrates its 11th edition this year with three trail running races in Veneto to run all in one go!

The distances of 70 km, 50 km and 25 km satisfy trail runners of all levels, eager to immerse themselves in unique natural and historical landscapes.

The races, starting from Segusino near Vittorio Veneto (Treviso), offer breathtaking landscapes. The races tracks develop along the Prosecco Hills (UNESCO heritage), do you know Valdobbiene and Conegliano?

The tracks continue until they touch the Val Dobbiene, then CastelBrando, a monument of Italian beauty (Hotel restaurant, SPA), a former Roman settlement and a splendid medieval residence.

The race tracks continue climbing on the ridge of Col Visentin 1,763 m. (from where you can see Venice) and Lake Morito and crosses alpine huts, woods and medieval villages part of the rural history of this corner of the Veneto region until it descends to the finish line in Revine Lake.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE RACES

Before illustrating attractions and entertainment for athletes and families, let’s discover the technical characteristics of the three race tracks.

The long distance 70 km ultra trail race

The Gran Raid Prealpi Trevigiane 70 km (GR70) is a perfect Ultra Trail race to test yourself before the Lavaredo Ultra Trail or other races planned for June, you will compete with the best athletes of northern Italy.

The track is about 67km long with 4,100m. D+ and it awards 3 ITRA points. The start is at 6.30 on 21 May 2023 from Segusino and the arrival in Revine, maximum time 16 hours.

This is the most demanding and technical path: a perfect mix of tradition and innovation, a tribute to past editions, but also novelties, with the rediscovery of wild paths and tracks. The race track is roughly composed as follows: trails 64%; dirt road 30% and asphalted or concrete road 6%.

The medium distance trail running 50 km race

The Gran Raid Prealpi Trevigiane 50 km (GR5o) race is a 48 km long course with 3,100 D + and awards 3 ITRA points.

In the race you will share a large part of the paths of the GR70 going up the Col Visentin up to the San Boldo pass. It is a shorter, but equally demanding and technical track that offers breathtaking views, historical ruins, trails in the woods and steep climbs and majestic peaks.

The start of the race at 6.30 on 21 May 2023 from Segusino and the arrival is in Revine, maximum time 12 hours.The track is generally composed of: trails 60%, dirt road 30%, asphalted road 10%.

The short distance 25 km race

The Gran Raid Prealpi Trevigiane 25 km (GR25)is the shortest of the aces, with a distance of 23 km and 1,440 D +. It awards 2 ITRA points. The start is at 9.30 on 21 May 2023 from Revine Lago, maximum time 7 hours.

It starts from the historic center of Revine Lago from the small square in via Roma, passing through rural views near the town, continuing in the woods, climbing in altitude, passing through old huts and ancient villages. Then a series of paths lead you to Col Visentin. From here we descend until we reach the Church of San Francesco, where there will be only one kilometer to go to the finish.

The track is roughly composed as follows: trails 60%; dirt road 30%; paved road 10%.

WHERE TO SLEEP AND EAT

The organization of the event offers a range of accommodations for all budgets, from B & Bs to the most spectacular hotels such as the one in CastelBrando, which also has a splendid indoor SPA and outdoor whirlpools.

It also has and a unique “feudal” restaurant where you can taste fantastic food and enjoy an ancient atmosphere you will never forget.

The hotels are approximately 10-30 minutes by car from the departure. Vittorio Veneto offers the widest choice of accommodation, restaurants, wineries and historical monuments … do not miss the central square with the wonderful cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta from 1740 AD.

WHAT TO VISIT

Participation in competitions is an opportunity to visit new places that offer unique experiences: historical, cultural and gastronomic.

Do not miss a visit to the cellars of Prosecco producers managed by owners who have cultivated unique and world-famous wines over the centuries but also maintained a landscape of cultivation of vines rich in colors, aromas and tradition.

In the surroundings of Vittorio Vento, it is possible to participate in food and wine tours and enjoy some landscape beauties such as the Caglieron Caves.

You can also decide to visit the Lake Santa Croce where you can relax and sunbathe or, if you are not yet tired enough, go cycling with the family or practice other water or flying sports of all tipes.

Finally, for the little ones, children, but also adults .. it is worth visiting the Neolithic Livelet Archaeological Park, rebuilt on stilts on the shores of Lake Lago, a stone’s throw from the start and finish of the trail running races.

HOW TO GET THERE

The town of Revine Lago, Vittorio Veneto area, is easily reachable by car, with the A4 Turin-Venice-Trieste motorway or from Bologna with the A13 which all connect with the A27 near Mestre-Venice to quickly reach Vittorio Veneto. Some examples of the duration of the journey from Milan less than 4 hours and from Bologna just over 2 hours. Nearest airports: Venezia, Treviso (for low costs).
