JULY 2015, SPAIN – EHM ENDURANCE ULTRA TRAIL 2015 168km 11.000m D +, HALF TOR DES GEANTS IN ONE GO!
The TRM Team was there with Marco & Cristina in preparation for the Tor des Geants. EHM was chosen in December 2014 as a “test” to verify the ongoing training program for the Tor des Geants.
The EHM is a difficult race due to:
– trail track, nervous, sour, devoid of water sources, no truce with continuous ups and downs and then peaks with steep slopes, typical for the Basque Country Mountains;
– weather conditions, scorching heat (38°) and hot sunshine at the start and for several hours, extreme cold (0 °) with rain, sleet and dense fog at altitude during the night, with the risk of getting lost;
– competition regulation, that prohibits any personal assistance even at the refreshment points and imposes the total self-sufficiency. Participants should use the refreshment points set up along the race track, rather “minimalist” and with an assortment (tortilla de patatas, raw tomatoes, watermelon, gummy sandwiches, peanuts, cakes, coffee, lemonade, water) not in line with our habits. Overcooked pasta available only at km 77 and km 130.
But it was a good test, especially for the mental strength. The Team passed through the scorching heat of the day, the stormy night on the peaks with slippery rocks and arrived at the finish line. Training for the “Tor” is proceeding in the best way. “Easy” races do not temper and do not make yourself an Endurance Trailer.
In a competition that is part of Spain Cup – Basque Country, a 4th place overall and 1st cat. of Cristina and the result of Marco positioned in the first cat. ranking completed the picture of this international trip of the TRM Team.
